The J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center provides a year round program of recreation and related social services.
- After School Program
- The J. Ashburn Youth Center will offer after school tutoring. Our objective is to realize a measurable improvement in test scores between a pre and post tests taken by the students. All eligible students, 3rd through 8th grades, will receive 24 hours of tutoring. Middle School Students will attend 3 two hour tutoring sessions for 4 weeks. Staff will develop collaborate with parents to complete an Improvement Achievement Plan for the child that includes academic goals, timelines, and assessments.
- Lead The Way
- Lead The Way is a local initiative that partnered with the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center. Lead The Way provides educational enrichment and internship opportunities for students with physical, sensory or learning disabilities. Lead The Way replicates successful transition development activities with a focus on areas of need specific to youth with disabilities, including exposure to mentors and role models with and without disabilities, tutoring (reading & writing), homework help (academic achievement), self-advocacy, leadership, opportunities, post-secondary awareness, workforce development, and summer employment.
- Hilltop Prime Time After-School
- J. Ashburn, Jr. Youth Center in partnership with the Hilltop Lutheran church offers a faith-based after school program. Students receive tutoring, homework help, arts & crafts projects, and Bible readings.
- Summer Life Enrichment Program (SLEP)
- Provides an intense 10 week summer program offering age specific activites in the areas of physical activities, arts and crafts, and education. This program includes a nutritious lunch and dinner, preparation for academic year and community development training. They also have academic reading time. to encourage and develop reading skills.
